About PFA WA

Western Australia and The challenge facing our community.

The desire of PF in Western Australia is to be a spiritual community committed to caring for, nuturing and teaching  prisoners, ex-prisoners, their familes and victims of crime. This community exists both inside and outside prison and will make anyone associated with crime feel acceptable, welcome, loved and supported.  This community will demonstrate in pratical terms the essence of the PF Vision and Mission .

In  February 2003 Western Australia had 3500 prisoners in 15 prisons  - Prison Fellowship has teams that visit 13 of these prisons each week.

Prison Fellowship in WA is now actively  promoting  Restorative Justice based on biblical principles within the Department of Corrective Services  & the prison system.   This is not some way out , do gooder, radical idea – it is something that has been happening in Brasil for 30 years and in the mid 90’s has started happening in a number of States within  the US - and it works.  Recidivism - a measurement of how many  prisoners reoffend within 2 years of being released - in the prisons where the Inner Change Programs have been running has been reduced to 5%.  Currently recidivism in Australia – depending on the crime is between 40% – 75% .
